Sweet Love Keira @10 Weeks

She is growing so fast and her training is going great! I weighed her at 10.5 weeks and she is already 16 pounds! Still fighting that Giardia, but hopefully this last dose of antibiotics will get it!

This video is of her and Kaia playing. Too cute!

Keira Berlin @ 9 Weeks

She is such a joy! Keira and Kaia are the best of friends. I take her over there a few times a week to play with her big sister and for some "Papa Training" - they romp and play in the yard for hours its so adorable!! Also nice for me because she is a tired puppy when I get her home :)

Keira had her 9 week shot and check up apointment. She did great, but she does still have coccidia and they found giardia. Both are pretty common in puppies, so they put her on another round of anti-biotics. She weighs 12 pounds, which means she has put on 5 pounds in 3 weeks! I swear she gets bigger each day! Her training is going great. So far she knows sit, wait, find it, leave it and off. Miss Keira is a vocal girl its really cute, I tell her she much be part feline because she make meow noises! She loves to communicate and its great. Also, one of her favorite games is to play on our bed! She runs and pounces around I just love the puppy look she gets on her face!

These pictures are taken of her at 9 weeks laying on my parents deck after a long play day with Kaia.

Keira Berlin: Choosing a Name

I struggled to find the right name for my baby. She is so beautiful I wanted a name that would fit her as a puppy and also when she turns into a gorgeous adult German Shepherd. Since she is from both German and Czech lines I wanted names that would also fit those origins.

I chose Keira which comes from Irish and Russian origins. It means: Dusky, Dark Haired, Lady

I chose her middle name Berlin because it sounds beautiful and is a representation of her German origins.

Keira Berlin @ 8 Weeks

Keira is such an amazing sweet girl She is definitely a spit fire, but I love her to pieces! She has been spending time with Kaia who is great at helping with puppy manners and socialization! I plan to continue this and it helps burn off some of that puppy energy!

I also have been exploring the world of dog chews - very interesting stuff out there. Still getting my arms around the weird stuff - bully sticks, pig and lamb ears, trachea, knee caps etc! But hey, these are all so much safer than raw hides so what ever makes my little needle mouth happy! :)

Also, wow there is soooo much information out there on puppy food. I think I have decided to put her on Orijen Large Breed Puppy. This food is amazing. It does have higher protein, but it is all from meat and the calcium and phosphorus levels are right on for a growing GSD. It mirrors more of the natural Wolf diet. I hope she does great on it!

These pictures were taken of the love playing with a beef tendon - ick, but cute none the less. Her baby ears are really starting to stand up!

Announcing: Keira Berlin (Metcalfe) Von Gluckhaus

After a long summer (well really many years) of waiting I finally got my sweet baby girl ball of fur! She is such a joy!

My Dad, Jeff, Macoy, Krista, Chloe and I all drove up to Paonia, Colo. - Von Gluckhaus Kennels on Friday, August 27th. It was such a beautiful drive and I am thankful they could all be there with me for the special day. Paonia is a 4 hour drive from Denver and the scenery is gorgeous.

When we pulled up, we were greeted by a gorgeous pack of German Shepherd Dogs - many ages and colors. In the background, playing under a tree was the litter. They were all so ridiculously cute! When we walked through the gate, my baby-girl ran up to us for loves and kisses! I knew then she was the one. Though, I knew she was the one this summer from the photos, but once I met her it was magic.

We were all starving so we went to get lunch at The Casa (thanks for the reco Diane) and had an amazing lunch of fish and chips! Then we were off to get the little girl who was getting a bath in the meantime. The ride home was smooth, no car sickness! And her and Chloe cuddled the whole way home!

She is sweet, very outgoing and a puppy spit fire. We are so happy and so in love. Her puppy pounce is adorable! So far the potty training is going pretty well, she is a smart little girl! Many more updates to come!
